Happy St Patrick's Day!!

Are you wearing green??? I sure am - which makes me kind of sad cause I really don't rock green that well. Has to be just the right shade or else my skin kind of takes on this green tinge and I tend to look ill. But in the spirit of leprechauns and pots of gold - Its on!

Mr Boss Man came back from Utah today and brought a giant bag of Salt Water candy - ooooohhhhh Yes, I love my job. I will have to double up my work out due to today however - totally worth it!! The green ones were for sure my favourite today.

The sun was shining today - but the wind was blowing so it was still kind of chilly out. But at least it was sunshine!!!

So - plans for St Patrick's - chill out at home and play video games and eat junk food (none of which are green I think)

I am currently sitting on the couch  - B is in the computer chair playing another one of our friends on NHL hockey (xbox, you're shocked I know) and P is in the kitchen making me popcorn.  He takes good care of me! <3

I have a day off work tomorrow and I am SO SO SO EXCITED!!! I fully intend to SLEEP in, go work out eventually, have some lunch and then spend the afternoon reading on the couch. You are all jealous of my glamorous life I am sure. Didn't end up reading last night - fell asleep too quickly. So I am only on page 90 of "Augie" - its really going slowly - tomorrow I plan on making a lot of progress on it however.

So going to eat popcorn and wait for the hockey games to be over and then I might be forced to take over the xbox and play some Fairy Tale Fights (not recommended for children - very twisted)
Hope the leprechauns don't get you and maybe you find some gold - and to my friends who partake in green beer - BE CAREFUL GET HOME SAFE

Taco's Wednesday!!!

I think I am on the mend!!! YAY!!!

I woke up this morning and didn't feel like death! So I did my work out!! Ok, I attempted to work out. I sure couldn't keep up AT all - was coughing a lot, but it actually kind of felt good to cough it all out. So, it was a pretty pathetic work out, but I think it was the trying that really counts here don't you?

Off to work for another decent day. Was busy during the morning which was very nice - then it dropped dead for a few hours. Which turned out perfect for me cause my parents came into town!! They came and stole me away from the store and we went to Lammle's (Western wear makes them both happy)  I even somehow got a pair of jeans that are super cute - they have a really good deal on jeans right now if you need some or know someone that is going and you can sneak yours into their pile and pay them back outside the store ;-)

I was STARVING at work in the afternoon and was thinking about what I could want for dinner and decided on perogies!! So I stopped by the grocery store on the way home and picked up stuff - got home and was chatting with P & B and REALISED its WEDNESDAY!!!!

TACO WEDNESDAYS!!!!!!!!
mmmm Taco's...

SOOOOO exciting!!! They are DELICIOUS and cost $0.50!! You can pick your toppings and they are yummmmyyyyy

Ok - B and I have been going for taco's for MONTHS together - its our friend-chill-time and we usually have a wicked vent session over taco's (or coffee at Tim Hortons if its not wednesday, or over buffalo chicken if we decide Boston Pizza is calling to us)  We started going for taco's together because P would have a raid on Wednesday's and we would be super bored without him - thus began our weekly Taco Wednesday rituals! It's also what started him being my big bro - one really cute waitress asked if I was waiting for my boyfriend and I said "uh, nope my brother" ... yes, I can wingman (for the record he did NOT ask for her phone number, oh well I tried)

So tonight - we introduced P to the ritual (he has given up on World of Warcraft  for the time being and I have fallen more in love with him!!)

Pepsi + taco's + P = me in a fabulous mood!
Pepsi will prolly be the death of me
I will prolly need to work out twice tomorrow because I ate too much, but it was SO worth it - and really, isn't a healthy life all about BALANCE? Have a big meal of amazing taco's and maybe tomorrow only have a salad? Meh  - my new cute wranglers still fit so I'm happy!!

Off to read - Don't forget to wear green tomorrow!!

Book #1

The Adventures of Augie March by Saul Bellow

March 14 2011 - Monday

I picked this book up from the Lethbridge Public Library Main Branch this afternoon. I am currently battling the WORST cold I think that I have ever had in my entire life (25 years I could be wrong, that's a lot of colds to consider) So, I walked in the door and P was playing xbox and kinda laughed at my haggard appearance - thankfully did not make any Rudolph comments for which I would have chucked a pillow at him ... or possibly stood in front of the TV screen ;-)
So I grabbed a blanket and settled in next to him and opened "Augie" only to fall fast asleep approximately 10 minutes later.  Fabulous start don't you think?  I really don't think that it is Mr Bellow's fault for not having a gun-start opening chapter.

When I woke back up several hours later ( P just laughed and let me sleep the wonderful man) I decided I wanted to learn a bit more about Mr Saul Bellow.

It turns out that he was actually born in Canada - in Quebec, but his birth certificate was lost in a fire. He was said to have celebrated his birthday on June 10  (also my father's birthday)
Although he is Jewish he has been quoted as saying that he isn't a Jewish writer, but an American writer who happens to be a Jew.
He won the Noble Prize for literature in 1976.

Ok - onto Chapter 2! :-)

March 15 2011 - Tuesday

Had a really good day at work today!!! P & B came and took me for lunch!! I'm so lucky to have them around right now. Its the greatest. I had a bacon cheeseburger and had a hard time finishing my fries. Luckily, P helped me out. They had GIANT ketchup packets there!! P has a serious ketchup addiction so he was pretty excited over them.

The boys are playing Xbox so I have been reading a couple chapters in "Augie". Still hasn't really sucked me in and I'm not seeing where the plot will eventually lead. Thus far, its just him growing up in Chicago. Only 70 pages in so I can't make much judgement yet. My mother used to always tell me I had to give a book 10 chapters before I made a judgement. At that time in my life most the books I was reading were ONLY 10 chapters. I think its how she taught me to get through a book all the way to the end before making any real decisions on it.

Still battling this cold unfortunately. But I'm spoiled by a great guy who brought me a bowl of snap peas and some ranch dressing to dip them in and snuggled a fuzzy blanket around me. How did I get this lucky?

Off to read another couple chapters before bedtime...

Up for a Challenge

My roommate and I watched the adorable movie "Julie and Julia" a few weeks ago and it really inspired me - first of all, that I need to learn to cook a few more recipes!! And second of all, life needs goals and challenges to keep it interesting and moving forward.

So I have chosen my goal.

Unlike Julie in the movie, I do not have the motivation to cook over 500 recipes in one year. P would probably enjoy that idea, however, with him spending weeks at a time away for work, this is not the most appealing challenge for myself at this time. (Sorry to disappoint, I am sure you were all excited for great kitchen disasters caught on film)

Instead I thought about my hobbies and what makes me happiest. When I have had a rough day at work or a lousy afternoon trying to find the perfect pair of strapped black shoes, or I am sitting alone because P has gone off to "china" to work, I always reach for a book. It is how I escape from my worries and troubles, I find myself laughing with the comedians, crying over the heartbreaks and daydreaming about the far away destinations.

Of course I turned to Google - which brought me to this website:

http://www.time.com/time/specials/packages/completelist/0,29569,1951793,00.html

The top 100 books written from 1923 to the present.

I have read through the titles on this list and I believe that it is very well compiled. That may be due to the fact that there are several titles I read on my own or was asked to read in High School (thank you Mr Heninger) and I actually do own a handful of them (Or did before persuading a friend to borrow a great read and then never getting it back)

 This shall be my challenge.

Now I won't be as strict on my timeline because frankly, some of these titles I have never heard of and am not sure I will be able to find. But I have my library card in hand and picked up my first title today.

With that, I start the clock and pick up my first book

Wish me luck!

... the music moves me ...

Have to throw in a post about some music:

One of the very first CD's I purchased with my very own babysitting money was Finger Eleven : Greyest of Blue Skies. It came out just as I was starting up high school - of course right at the time of life when so many things are influencing the kind of person that you are going to become.

I have remained a fan of Finger Eleven since I first heard of them - so of course when I got an email from ticketmaster saying that they were coming to Calgary I managed to get tickets for P and I.

February 4 2011 I FINALLY was able to see them with a pleasant surprise. A new band I had only heard rumour of, opened for them.

The Envy - Don't Let Go

The more I listen to them, the more than I enjoy them and can tell the kind of music they have been influenced by. They seem to be pretty down to earth guys - in fact I participated in a live chat with them earlier this afternoon.

After their set at the University of Calgary I was happy to see them posing for pictures with fans, talking about their music and basically being "normal" people.  Made me like them even more, unfortunately have had bad experiences with bands who get too large of an ego about their "fame".

THEN it was time for Finger Eleven to take the stage - FANTASTIC! I was excited to not only hear new songs BUT they played "I'll Keep Your Memory Vague" - the album "Them vs. You vs. Me"
"Drag You Down" & "First Time" from my favourite "Greyest of Blue Skies"

P had never really been a fan but during the concert he did post via his blackberry on facebook "Finger 11 actually not that bad when its a live concert =p"

So perhaps he isn't converted into a lifetime fan such as myself, but we did have a great time together!

So, after a decade of being a Finger Eleven fan, I saw them live in the flesh!
Finger Eleven - First Time

So, you are asking, why was a a fan for a whole decade? Perhaps, was it the fact that they were new to my scene? Or maybe it was my rebel spirit knowing my parents wouldn't appreciate the heavy beats?

Like most of the music I am drawn to, there is something I can't explain. Its something that tingles inside your soul and makes you want to move some body part in time with the thumping bass. It's the way that some of lyrics feel strangely similar to the rants and private thoughts you poor out on the pages of a notebook you keep hidden under your mattress so your nosey little sisters don't read it.

Or maybe, I thought the lead singer was hot? ;-)

Happy to be Home...

We made it home!!! All of us!!!

Was great to get out of the city but now I am so happy to be home and have P here too. Nice to have him home and around to do stuff.
Very excited over their new xbox games
Work has been getting busier which is nice.  Rugby and outdoor soccer start up soon so I will be busy with working on jersey's for teams. Its good to be busy, makes the days go a lot faster which is nice.

And FINALLY the weather is changing for the better. I love not having to grab my ice scraper every single morning! I tend to get a little down when the weather isn't nice so this is making me feel a whole lot better I must say! I am so excited to be looking forward to being able to take walks again. I am definitely more active when its nicer out. Altho, I have been doing the Jillian Michaels 30 Day Shred the past month and I must say its really proved to be worth it - My sister and mom got me hooked on it. It really does work.

On that note I have a present for my female friends: Free Curves 1 week

if that link doesn't work here is the url: http://womenfreebies.ca/health/one-week-free-pass-to-curves/
There's a start to getting active again for spring on me (ok its free but I am so going to take credit for it! You're very welcome!!)

Greetings from Fort Saskatchewan ... still

Good morning from my hotel bed!

My observations about Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta.

View from first hotel room

  • Its really cold!!
  • The Wal Mart is mini (kind of like the one that I worked at in Pincher Creek)
  • The stuffed mushrooms at Christi's are AMAZING!
But I am rather ready to come home.

As of right now the plan is to leave sometime early this afternoon. Then its me and P driving back to Calgary where B will jump in with us (and the multiple bags of STUFF) and we'll all travel back to Lethbridge together. Pretty excited that both boys are coming home. I missed them a lot. Well, P more than B but that's to be expected.
I told B I would learn to make cannoli for him so if anyone has a recipe out there lemme know! I am sure I will make a grand mess of it.

Ok! Time to find some breakfast and stop watching Retro-toons (btw the Smurfs & Beetlejuice are retro? Thanks for making me feel old Cartoon Network you big jerks!!)

Hopefully we'll be on the road in a few hours.

So hard to leave this comfy bed ...
